When it comes to creating a coastal-style living room then there are a few factors that you should bear in mind in order to create the perfect coastal look.

When you think coastal style, you think of words like serene, calming, peaceful and relaxing and both the colours you use, the type of materials for furniture and the decor pieces are all have to link back to those feelings.

You cannot go wrong with using all neutrals for a coastal living space. If you want to achieve a look like this then notice the following elements:
* Walls – White painted VJ boards.
* Furniture -Natural light timber or lime washed pieces.
* Accessories-Wicker baskets, shells, timber boxes, plants, glass lamp base with linen shade.
* Artwork-Sea themed items, natural elements.

Another simple combination that always looks fresh and inviting and is one of my favourites (because you know I’m a blue girl) is to mix simple white and a variety of blues. It is foolproof for the coastal look. If you want to create a seaside living room like this then notice the following elements:
* Walls – White painted plasterboard.
* Floors – Lime washed timber floorboards.
* Ceiling – Exposed raked ceilings painted white.
* Shutters – Pale blue painted.
* Furniture – Variety of blue patterned fabrics and comfortable, relaxed seating.

Keep your coastal look casual and comfortable. Nothing should look too formal. You want both yourself and guests to feel like you can make yourself at home feel cosy and relaxed. This hanging cane chair is a perfect addition to a coastal style space as are the timber floors and artwork in a combination of blues.

Once again neutrals feature in this room. One of my favourite items for this seaside look is to use a large jute or sea grass rug in the living room. It is so easy to work with and really practical when it comes to dirty feet. Team it with a round timber table, a cream couch and a touch of natural greenery and you are almost there. Keep walls white or off white.

White, blue and timber yet again. You should notice a theme emerging. Like this picture shows, ensure your cushions and your art work are connected by colour.

All white is always so lovely and mixing it with a bit of timber always enhances the space. This look is restrained and many people love the simplicity. My feeling is that it wouldn’t hurt to add a bit more of the bottle green colour that you see below.
